This is Rob's first term as a member of the Town Council.
Background:
Raised in Carleton Place, Rob can easily trace his local ancestry back 4 generations.
Rob is well known for his crafts and candle manufacturing business starting in 1967 through to its evolvement as a very progressive retailer operating in his great grandfather's store directly across from the Town Hall. This building is still known as the Patterson Building. Rob purchased this building and 1978 substantially renovated this heritage building, saving it from the wrecking ball.
Rob currently owns and operates the Canadian Career Academy which provides a wide range of employment assistance activities.
Community Involvement:
- Founding Chairman of the Carleton Place BIA 1976 (served 6 years)
- Founding Director of the "new” Carleton Place Chamber of Commerce 1982
- President of the Carleton Place Chamber of Commerce for 12 years (1984 -1996)
- Chairman Carleton Place Santa Claus Parade 14 years of service
- Chairman Carleton Place Canada Day Committee 13 years of service as Chair
- Chair Carleton Place Marketing and Promotions Committee 3 years service
- Chair Carleton Place Community Development Committee 4 years service
- Public member on the Carleton Place Auditorium Committee
- Honoured as Carleton Place Business Person of the Year 2005
- Honoured as Carleton Place Citizen of the Year 2008
Vision:
Rob is realistic about the challenges facing Town Council in this period of financial pressure, growth issues and quality of life balances.
Having grown up in Carleton Place and having a wide and unusual background brings an interesting skills set to the table. Rob's past strengths have always been in visioning and being able to bring people together in collaborative efforts.
